car computer

specs

This is a computer I put into the car. It has a 7" touchscreen and it's hooked straight up to the stereo.

It was cheaper than buying an iPod.

  • 800MHz VIA Mini-ITX motherboard, 320MB ram
  • 10GB hdd off ebay for peanuts
  • 80W Morex DC-DC car power supply
  • 7" Lilliput EBY-701 touchscreen

Always use NTFS, it doesn't become corrupted easily as FAT32, and it allows me to just turn the car off without shutting down the PC first.

The frontend is a little Visual Basic app I wrote, it uses Windows Media Player for song data and playback.

The white knob in the pictures below is my volume control, a stereo pot with a replacement dimmer knob on it.

sound system

Driving the sound is a Sony Xplod head unit. It's rated for 250W altogether, and will handle about 27W RMS per speaker.

I have 250W Kenwood 6.5" 2-ways in front, and 300W Kenwood 6x9s in back.
